Meliá will foster the hosting of sustainable MICE events
20 July, 2022The Meliá Hotels International chain is redefining its value proposals for MICE professionals with a clear objective that it holds as an absolute priority: to take the role of a strategic and facilitating partner for the hosting of more sustainable events, a key attribute that is set to mark a change in direction for the industry.
In order to achieve this objective, the company will launch a pioneering initiative that allows it to measure, reduce and offset its carbon footprint at the events held at its hotels. This represents a vital step towards promoting carbon neutrality while also providing a solution for the increasingly demanding needs of professionals across the sector.
According to José Miguel Moreno, Corporate & MICE Sales Strategy VP for Meliá Hotels International, “our goal is to involve our customers in the fight against climate change and work together in the journey towards decarbonising events. We’re very proud to be taking our first steps towards fostering the Sustainable transformation of the MICE sector.
Meliá will provide their MICE customers with a tool allowing them to calculate, in a rigorous and trackable way, the amount of CO2 generated by each event, in terms of transport, energy and water usage, materials and waste, catering services and accommodation. These measurements will make it easier to identify opportunity areas for reducing the carbon footprint.
