Riu Hotels reduces its waste generation by 10,000 tonnes
10 August, 2022The Spanish hotel chain Riu Hotels recently published the results of its sustainability plan, including a 10,000 tonne decrease in waste generation, from 36,745 tonnes in 2019 to 27,315 tonnes in 2021, a milestone for the company.
Other relevant data published by Riu includes a significant decrease in water consumption, from 9,591,402 m3 in 2019 to 6,965,503 m3 last year. In the same period, energy consumption fell from 629,150 megawatt hours to 491,635 in 2021.

The hotel chain highlighted that in the last two years it has also achieved a slight reduction in the consumption of single-use plastic items. Purchase of local products for consumption in its establishments accounted for 75% of the total amount.
