6 Spanish restaurants among the 50 best in the world
10 August, 2022The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 ranking, recently released, includes a total of six Spanish haute cuisine establishments, with Barcelona’s Disfrutar occupying the highest position, in third place, behind Peru’s Central in second place and Denmark’s Geranium in first.
In fourth position on the list, which is drawn up by the prestigious British magazine Restaurant and has been running for 20 years, is another Spanish gastronomic temple: Madrid’s Diverxo. The restaurant is run by the popular chef Dabiz Muñoz and the Top 50 list marks its incredible evolution, with the establishment having previously occupied 20th place.
As for the other Spanish restaurants, Asador Etxeberri (Axpe, Vizcaya) moves from 3rd to 6th position; Mugaritz (Errenteria, Guipuzkoa) drops from 14th to 21st position; and Elkano (Guetaria, Guipuzkoa), remains in 16th position. Quique Dacosta (Denia, Valencia), which had previously dropped out of the ranking in 2017, now returns in 41st position.
Josep Roca from El Celler Can Roca has also been named best sommelier in the world, and chef Ángel León, owner of Aponiente (El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz), as having the most sustainable restaurant.
