Iberia is Europe’s most punctual airline this summer

17 August, 2022

In June, the Spanish airline Iberia achieved an On-Time Performance (OTP) of 81.34% in the 13,196 flights operated, making it the new leader for punctuality in Europe and fifth in the world. This is a real sign of quality, and especially appreciated by its passengers during the current climate of travel complications.

However, Iberia’s June performance was lower than May’s (OTP 87.55%), a sign that the region had significant operational challenges that month. Air Europa came in 2nd with 79.56% on time flights, and Vueling 3rd with 77.47%. Norwegian Air Shuttle made its debut in the top 5 ranking in 5th place with an on-time performance of 72.11%.

Overall, All Nippon Airlines continues to dominate the category with an OTP of 92.44%, slightly better than its performance last month (92.11%). The surprise is the emergence of Emirates, which came in at number 5 with an OTP of 88.40%.

As passengers return in high numbers this travel season, airlines are struggling to keep up. In fact, airlines are facing the consequences of business decisions made during the pandemic to remain solvent.
