Pollution from cruise ships will descend to Barcelona

12 October, 2022

The cruise ships which dock in the Port of Barcelona from 2026 will be able to connect to the general electricity grid and, in this way, use energy of 100% renewable origin, thanks to a project to electrify the docks whose cost amounts to 110 million euros.

As reported by CLIA Spain (Cruise Line International Association), the Port of Barcelona and the main operators in the cruise sector, both shipping companies and terminals, “have agreed to create a working group to speed up the connection of ships to the general electrical network once they have docked”.

These cruise ships are Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Group, MSC Cruises, NCL Holding, Viking Cruises and Virgin Voyages.
