The Balearics improve their offer by eliminating "binge tourism" venues

19 October, 2022

The authorities of the Balearic Islands have announced that they will make an investment of 10 million euros to buy low-class hotels and entertainment venues where there is “excessive tourism” and will do so in Ibiza and Mallorca, to contribute to the obsolete supply reduction process.

By purchasing obsolete tourist businesses, the Balearic Government wants to “set an example of the pathway” to follow, according to the President of the islands, Francina Armengol. This measure aims to promote the regeneration of areas dedicated to tourism in Mallorca and Ibiza.

“We have to promote a productive model which can simultaneously generate prosperity, employment and opportunities and do so by protecting the capacity of a territory and natural resources that are incompatible with excessive tourist pressure”, stated Armengol to the Balearic Parliament.
