Riu uses 100% renewable energy in all its hotels

7 December, 2022

The Riu hotel group will provide sustainable care to customers who stay overnight in its more than 11,000 rooms distributed among the 27 hotels it has in Spain. And it will do so with 100% renewable energy, which will mean avoiding the emission of 30,000 tonnes of CO2.

All thanks to an agreement between the chain and Iberdrola (which they are studying to extend to other countries where there are also Riu hotels), according to which a long-term contract is established to supply energy to the hotels and headquarters of the hotel company in Spain representing an annual consumption of around 70 gigawatt/ hour.

The Chief Procurement officer of Riu Hotels & Resorts, Bartolomé Enseñat, considered that this agreement “represents a great step forward in our objective of having an increasingly sustainable operation. We are proud to be able to tell all our clients and colleagues that all the energy we use in Spain from today has a renewable origin certified by the CNMC”.
