Iberostar will be neutral in CO2 emissions in 2030
4 January, 2023The Iberostar hotel chain recently announced that it is working so that all the establishments in its portfolio are carbon neutral by 2030. This involves reducing the total intensity of its annual emissions by 594,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The Mallorcan hotel group has presented its roadmap towards decarbonisation, the most ambitious in the sector, since it is 20 years ahead of the global objective set by the industry. Iberostar undertakes to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 85% by 2030 compared to the base year 2019, as well as 50% of scope 3 GHG emissions in the same period.
In addition, it will offset the remaining emissions by relying on solutions based on nature. “We continue working for responsible tourism which generates value for people and the environment, articulating a clear strategic plan with defined lines that are part of the ambitious commitments of our own 2030 Agenda”, explained Gloria Fluxà, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of Iberostar.
