Travelling by train with dogs : progress in Spain

Renfe has extended its pilot test on travelling with dogs of up to 40kg. It began on some Madrid-Barcelona AVE services and has extended the test to certain AVE (high-speed train) services on the Madrid-Málaga line. This pilot test, which began on 13 September, is extended until 7 May 2023 due to the positive acceptance of the project by all travellers.

As the company has specified, passenger’s value the importance of being able to travel with their pets. Renfe continues to offer direct and semi-direct AVE trains for the pilot test of the Northeast Corridor, on the Madrid-Barcelona line, thanks to the great reception the project has had.

The same conditions are maintained: one “big” dog per passenger, with a maximum of two “big” dogs per train, in a single carriage and always in a fixed space with two specific seats. Assistance dogs and pets of under 10kg that go on board are excluded. They will continue to be covered by the same commercial regulations as seen on the website.
