8 March, 2023

There were 5.2 million passengers from international airports who went to Spain in January, 98% of the level recorded in January 2020 according to airline passengers published by Turespaña. Of all those who flew to Spain, 18.2% came from the UK which means an increase of +124.5% compared to the reported month.

For the minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, “this data shows an excellent start to the year and consolidates a reactivation trend of international tourism which will allow the tourism sector to fully recover this year. From the Government, we are deploying a very ambitious tourism policy to modernise our tourism model which already has results”.

The British travellers’ favourite destination was the Canaries with 43% of their flights going there. The next most visited destinations were Madrid and Catalonia.
