6 reasons for cultural tourism in Cantabria
5 July, 2023In Cantabria, cultural tourism occupies a very important space, with the Altamira caves, made up of a total of 10 caverns, 6 of which can be visited, standing out among its attractions. There are also numerous vestiges of Romanesque architecture scattered throughout the region. Not forgetting the heritage in the villages, such as the Rupestrian cave shrines.
There are also are two pilgrimage routes, that of Santiago al Norte and the Lebaniego, which cross up to seven protected areas. Cantabria is also celebrating the Xacobean Year, in addition to the Lebaniego Jubilee Year, which began in April. Both elements contribute to the internationalisation of tourism that the northern Spanish peninsular region is seeking.
In fact, one of Cantabria's objectives is to retain the loyalty of the tourists who visited the area during the pandemic. To this end, it also has other cultural resources more related to art, such as the Botín Centre in Santander or the Naves de Gamazo. As well as its powerful gastronomy, including one of the few restaurants with three Michelin stars in Spain.
