Amadeus invests in sustainable aviation fuel
19 July, 2023Amadeus has announced a minority stake in sustainable aviation fuel producer Caphenia, a German company that is developing an innovative method to produce it in a more affordable and scalable way, with the key goal of achieving zero net emissions by 2050.
The company's Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is currently at an advanced stage of development. It is based on an innovative approach to produce synthesis gas from a mixture of biogas, CO2, water and electricity, as reported by Amadeus, which with this initiative seeks greater visibility of this type of challenge.
According to forecasts, with the development of Caphenia, a variety of renewable fuels can be produced, with a reduction of up to 92% of CO2 emissions compared to the benchmark value of fossil fuels. Mark Misselhorn, the company's CEO stated that the process “uses one-sixth of the electricity required for alternative SAF production methods”.
