A “suitable atmosphere” for visiting the Alhambra

26 July, 2023

The Alhambra in Granada, historically the most visited monument in Spain, has updated its visitor regulations and, among other new features, has banned the circulation of bicycles, skateboards or similar devices, with or without motors, inside its enclosure, which is considered “pedestrian.” This change in mobility was published in the Official Gazette of the Andalusian Regional Government (BOJA).

Thus, the reform of the regulations governing visits, marketing and other public uses of the Alhambra and Generalife monuments and their associated assets, which are among the 10 most visited historical monuments in the world, specifies that with regard to vehicle access to the site, the circulation of bicycles, skateboards or similar devices, with or without motor, is not permitted inside the enclosure.

According to the order, this includes the free public access areas, “except for internal use.” Sources at the Patronato have specified that some aspects have also been updated, such as the percentage of short-term sales which has increased, because after the COVID-19 pandemic it was observed that visitors were planning their visit in a shorter period of time.
