Lonely Planet lists Spain as the best sustainable destination 2024

29 November, 2023

Spain has been recognised as the best sustainable destination in the world for 2024 and the Basque Country as one of the best regions to discover next year, in the awards presented by Lonely Planet in London, at the Turespaña stand during the WTM event.

The award places Spain in the leading position in sustainability, for its advances in the promotion of more ecological, adapted and sustainable tourism. And it highlights the Basque Country as the fifth region in the world in terms of interesting experiences to discover, for its authenticity and cultural diversity, and its commitment to sustainability.

For the director general of Turespaña, Miguel Sanz, “this award places us among the most sustainable countries to travel to in 2024 and we are pleased to see that our efforts towards the economic, social and environmental sustainability of tourism are being recognised by travellers,” he said.
