How Spain plans to professionalise tourist rental

10 July, 2024

The Ministry of Housing and the Urban Agenda, together with the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism, “will bring forward compliance with the European regulation to address the impact of tourist rental”, as announced by the head of this portfolio, Isabel Rodríguez, in the framework of the Sectorial Conference on Housing and the Urban Agenda. A measure that has received the approval of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Tourist Homes and Apartments (FEVITUR).

This group has expressed its satisfaction with this measure by the Government and the autonomous communities, which means bringing forward the implementation of the new European regulation. This will oblige online accommodation platforms to apply for a licence for all properties to be used for tourist rental.

This measure will “professionalise the sector and combat the black economy”, preventing fraud, organising the sector and improving the quality of Spain’s tourism offer. A demand, adopted by the Government, which is in line with the demands for professionalisation that this group has been demanding since its creation, Fevitur pointed out.
