Has Madrid become a global tourist icon?

31 July, 2024

The very balanced tourist demand, its capacity to attract and organise major events, as well as optimal infrastructures and connectivity are some of the keys to Madrid's tourist success, as the experts gathered by Elite Excellence-Spanish Luxury Federation (Federación Española del Lujo) and Madrid Open Cities agreed at the event "Madrid, a high-level destination".

But they also noted, according to the words of José Rodríguez Tarín, general manager of the Wellington Hotel & Spa, that success "is the result of the work and effort of public-private collaboration". In his opinion, the capital "has become a tourist icon". For Carlos Erburu, general manager of Thompson Madrid and Hyatt Centric Gran Vía hotels: "The people of Madrid are the key to its success and they will make it easier for us to become that icon".

Jorge Ruiz, head of CBRE Hotels Iberia, also pointed out that the city "has even more potential”. In fact, it will be at the end of this year when Madrid will regain pre-pandemic occupancy levels, but it still has a way to go in terms of the average price, especially in the high-end segment, although it has already increased substantially".
