Meliá will re-open an iconic hotel in Barcelona

18 September, 2024

The former Rey Juan Carlos I hotel re-opened its doors after four years of closure last January. In early September, the re-opening party was held for this iconic Barcelona establishment, which has gone from having a staff of 300 workers to a total of 400 employees focused on offering a luxury service.

The hotel, on Avinguda Diagonal, is an icon of the Catalan capital. It was opened during the 1992 Olympic Games and in its last stage before closure during the Covid-19 pandemic was managed by Fairmont.

But since this year, and after an investment of 40 million euros, the hotel has been reborn with a new name, brand and operator. Gran Meliá Torre Melina takes its name in honour of the old 12th century farmhouse in whose grounds the establishment is located.
