The Camino de Santiago adopts a model of generative tourism

2 October, 2024

In order to improve the experience of pilgrims and revive the economy of the towns along the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Aragón, Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y León and Galicia, the Camino de Europa project has been launched. Its aim is to encourage local development, foster cultural immersion, promote inclusive innovation and promote sustainable and regenerative tourism.

To achieve this goal, a technological platform has been developed to connect local producers and pilgrims. This is the Ways Journeys app, which enables walkers to access up-to-date information to plan their journey and connect directly with local producers and artisans, who, in turn, gain visibility for their businesses.

Small entrepreneurs can offer their goods and services directly to travellers, as the application incorporates a solution that makes possible the direct sale and delivery of purchases directly to the pilgrim’s home, both from Spain and other European Union countries.
