Fares on Spanish high-speed trains are adjusted
9 October, 2024The entry of competition on Spanish routes has meant that fares have been significantly reduced, especially on the route between Madrid and Barcelona: up to 43% on average. According to a European Commission study on rail transport in the European Union, the trend of falling prices has been more pronounced in Spain than in other European countries.
The study analyses the different models of High Speed competition in Europe and how it has affected both prices and the services offered by the different operators, also assessing aspects such as punctuality, frequencies and passenger satisfaction.
According to the analysis (which takes into account the different periods of liberalisation in Europe), the fall in prices in Spain since the entry of competition has been more pronounced and prolonged than in other European countries.
