A winery in the Canary Islands buys a hotel to develop wine tourism
23 October, 2024The company Bodegas El Grifo, the oldest of its kind in the Canary Islands, located in San Bartolomé (Lanzarote), has announced the purchase of Caserío de Mozaga, a hotel establishment located a few kilometres away. This move comes just as the winery celebrates its 250th anniversary.
“The acquisition of Caserío de Mozaga is a key step in the evolution of El Grifo as a wine tourism destination”, the property has assured. Previously, tastings and guided tours had already been offered, taking tourists to see the vineyards, the old winery, the new cellars and even a library inaugurated by the poet José Hierro and in which the Nobel Prize winner José Saramago was present.
The Caserío Mozaga was built at the end of the 18th century and is listed as Historical Heritage of Lanzarote. In 1998 it was converted into a country hotel with 12 rooms, including three suites, and a restaurant. It also has a special meaning for the family that owns the vineyard: “It was the house where our mother used to spend the summer when she was a little girl, so it has great sentimental value for us”, the brothers explained.
