10 sculptors to shape the iconic sand Nativity scene in Las Palmas

6 November, 2024

The Sand Nativity scene in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which will celebrate its 19th edition from 29 November to 7 January 2025, will have 10 sculptors to give life to the 2,000 m3 of sand that will be used in its modelling. The beach of Las Canteras, in the area of La Puntilla, will once again host these ephemeral works of art, which in 2023 received 170,000 visitors.

The councillor for Tourism and City of the Sea of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, Pedro Quevedo, states that it is “a resource that adds a differential value to the experience of Christmas in the city. A visit that residents and visitors alike look forward to every year at this time of year. A cultural and tourist facility with an important social dimension”.

The councillor added that “after 19 years, the Nativity Scene needs to adapt and modernise its equipment, so we have agreed to make a special effort to improve the structures of the marquees, work on the route, its universal accessibility and increase the information and visibility of the work carried out by the social canteens that receive donations from this resource every year”.
