Tourism helps finance 79 sustainable projects in the Balearics
27 November, 2024The Balearic Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) Commission has approved the allocation of €376.9 million from the funds corresponding to the 2024 and 2025 financial years for the development of 79 projects aimed at improving sustainability and the water cycle on the islands. This means that 65% of the levy will be used for this purpose.
By islands, Mallorca will receive the largest share of these funds, with an allocation of €229 million, representing 63.35% of the total. In second place, Eivissa will get €67.5 M (18.66 %), followed by Menorca with €53.7 M (14.85 %) and Formentera with €11.3 M (3.14 %). The distribution of resources responds to the needs of each island in terms of sustainability.
With an investment of €247.2 million for 34 projects, environmental and water cycle management initiatives are the central pillar of this call. These projects are aimed at improving the sustainability of water supply and sanitation infrastructures, modernising water supply systems for human consumption and optimising the energy efficiency of these facilities.
