Green Spain is in fashion: it receives 17 million visitors
4 December, 2024Green Spain, the tourist destination comprising Galicia, the Principality of Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, received almost 17 million visitors in 2023, up 4 million from 2019, in Europe’s largest ecotourism corridor. The director of Tourism of Galicia, Xosé Merelles, pointed out that the travellers come mainly from Europe, the UK and the United States.
The director of tourism said that in this “original tourist experience”,values such as the landscape, the marine environment, gastronomy, natural and architectural heritage and the people stand out above all others. He also referred to the Gran Roteiro da España Verde and the Ecotourism Corridor as cross-cutting tourism products covering the four autonomous communities.
Regarding the former, he stressed that it will allow travellers to discover iconic places such as San Sebastian, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the wineries of Rioja Alavesa, the bay of Santander, the Altamira caves, the Picos de Europa, Oviedo, the fishing villages of the Bay of Biscay, among others.
