Baleària: 100% electric, zero-emission “fast ferries”
5 February, 2025At Fitur 2025, the shipping company Baleària announced the construction of two new 100% electric “fast ferries”, designed to operate the first green maritime corridor between Spain and Morocco. These zero-emission vessels are planned to cover the Tarifa-Tangier route, consolidating a sustainable model of maritime transport.
The two “fast ferries”, which will be ready in 2026, will run exclusively on electricity supplied by rechargeable batteries in port. This technology will enable the Spanish shipping company to achieve zero emissions during crossings, significantly reducing the environmental impact.

Each ferry will have the capacity to transport 500 passengers and 250 vehicles, guaranteeing high speed and energy efficiency. Designed by specialised engineers, these vessels will include advanced systems to optimise energy use, maximising the autonomy of their batteries on short-distance journeys.
