Balearics receive over €288 M to renovate its tourism sector
23 April, 2025The Ministry of Industry and Tourism has allocated over €288 million towards improving tourism infrastructures in the Balearics in recent years, hoping to move towards a tourism model based on economic, social and environmental sustainability. This investment, which comes from Next Generation funds and the Sustainable Tourism Tax, represents the largest budgetary effort made by the State in the archipelago to modernise the sector.
In Magaluf (Calvià), the head of Industry, Jordi Hereu, said that the set of 70 projects distributed among the four islands responds to a strategy of profound transformation that seeks to adapt the offer to the new needs of tourists and residents. Furthermore, the addendum negotiated with the European Commission will let the Balearics extend the deadline for implementing the projects until 31 December 2025.

During his visit, Hereu held a meeting with representatives of the business and trade union network at the Palma Chamber of Commerce, where he highlighted the value of public-private collaboration and recognised the Balearics as a pioneering territory in policies such as the Sustainable Tourism Tax, the regulation of tourist rentals and the decree against excessive tourism, initiatives that have been replicated in other destinations.
