Spain, world leader again with 749 Blue Flags in 2025

21 May, 2025

Spain consolidates its position as global leader in Blue Flags by obtaining 749 awards this year, two more than in 2024. Of these, 642 correspond to beaches, 101 to marinas and six to tourist boats, reaffirming its first place overall in award-winning beaches and third in marinas.

This recognition, awarded by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), is part of a programme present in 52 countries. Spain and Portugal together account for 23% of all the Blue Flags on the planet.

91% of the 697 Spanish beach candidates passed the demanding criteria of the national jury, made up of 58 people from 34 public and private entities. The winners are distributed among 247 municipalities in 13 autonomous communities and the two autonomous cities.

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez Grau, stressed that many of these beaches benefit from investments linked to the Destination Sustainability Plans, which contributes to maintaining and extending this recognition.
