The Palacio de Congresos de Madrid, closer to its reopening

21 May, 2025

The Council of Ministers has approved the drafting, construction and operation contract of the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Madrid in the Paseo de la Castellana. The public works concession will have an estimated value of 1.279.25 billion euros and will be developed through an administrative contract that will include all the works except the intervention in building B.

The latter will be refurbished to become the new headquarters of UN Tourism, as already envisaged in the preliminary and basic project technically approved last year by Turespaña, the body responsible for the infrastructure. In addition, the entity obtained the planning permission in August 2023 and the go-ahead from the Project Supervision Office of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism in February 2024.

The new centre will be used for congresses and events and will be operated under a 40-year concession. Once the administrative procedure is completed, the public tender to award the final project will be published in the Official State Gazette.
