The seal of quality and sustainability is firmly established in Spain

30 July, 2025

This summer, a total of 524 Q flags for Quality and S for Tourism Sustainability are flying on beaches and marinas in Spain, according to the Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality and Sustainability (ICTES). The figure consolidates the coastal destinations’ commitment to excellence and sustainability, after passing demanding external audits. In total, 324 Q and 152 S flags have been awarded to beaches, along with 30 nautical-sports facilities certified with Q and 18 with S.

The official award ceremony, held in Madrid and presided over by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, highlighted the efforts of 123 coastal town councils that have achieved these distinctions. Communities such as Andalusia, Valencia and Murcia lead the ranking of certified municipalities. The S flag, launched in 2022, has doubled its numbers over the previous year, from 74 to 147, reflecting a growing demand from society and the public sector for sustainable tourism services.
