Aviles will have the first 5-star Gran Lujo de Asturias in 2027
30 July, 2025Work has begun on the refurbishment of the Palacio Josefina Balsera, an iconic building in Aviles that will become the first five-star Gran Lujo hotel in Asturias. The project, promoted by the businessman Fernando Artime -owner of the Gran Hotel Brillante-, involves an investment of €5 million for the purchase of the building from the Archbishopric of Oviedo and its complete development. It is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2027.
The future hotel will have a surface area of 2,000 m2 distributed over three floors, with 21 rooms, of which 10 will be suites. Its unique areas include a solid marble staircase, a landscaped area with a vertical garden and an outdoor area for events with a capacity for 100 people. The signature restaurant, Balsera, will be run by Aviles-born chef Alejandro Villa and will be able to seat up to 90 diners.

The refurbishment has been conceived with sustainable criteria in mind, with the aim of obtaining B Corp certification. Planned measures include LED lighting, aerothermal air-conditioning, integrated energy efficiency and a charging point for electric vehicles.
