Madrid consolidates its position as a European golf destination
13 August, 2025Golf has become a pillar of sports tourism in the Madrid Region, becoming part of the regional strategy to diversify its tourist offer. With a network of fields distributed throughout different municipalities, this activity has strengthened the connection between sport, leisure and local economic development.
The institutional effort to promote this segment has been recognised by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), which distinguished Madrid as the “Best European Golf Destination” in 2024. This recognition has helped to position the region as a benchmark in the field of sports tourism at international level.
Beyond the impact on tourism, golf also reflects a growing interest among residents, with a network of courses promoting access to the sport and reinforcing green infrastructure. According to the Regional Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco Serrano, the sector generates jobs, promotes sustainable values and favours regional economic dynamisation.
The region thus reinforces its commitment to a diversified tourism model, in which golf acts as an element of attraction and loyalty for visitors with high purchasing power.
