Solidarity in Spanish hotels: accommodating Ukrainian refugees

16 March, 2022

The outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine has resulted in more than a million people having to flee the European country in just a few days. The group is made up of mostly women and children who are seeking refuge to save their live. Faced with such a situation, the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT) is mobilising the hotel sector to make beds available to Ukrainian refugees.

The employers' association, which represents more than 16,000 premises with a total of 1,800,000 beds, has appealed to all Spanish tourist accommodation establishments through its member associations, aiming to speed up the provision of accommodation for refugees arriving in Spain until the government comes up with a suitable solution.

To do so, the organisation is coordinating the response of Spanish hotels, analysing the available accommodation and making the issue their top priority to quickly and efficiently respond to the needs of the humanitarian crisis, which is impacting the whole of Europe.
