British tourists spend more in Spain now than before the pandemic
1 June, 2022British tourists represent the biggest group visiting Spain. According to data published for March, 826,399 visitors from the UK came to Spain, representing 18.3% of the total. The total spend for this group reached a total of 1.013 million euros, making up 20% of the total spend, according to information released by Spain’s Commission for Tourism and Commerce (Ministerio de Turismo y Comercio).
The average spend by tourists visiting Spain in March was approximately 1,257 euros, representing a yearly increase of 13.6% and rising considerably from the 1,068 euros recorded as the average spend for March 2019. The total spend was recorded as more than 5 billion euros, or 84% of pre-pandemic levels, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
During the first three months of 2022, the number of tourists visiting Spain has increased by 696.7% and is close to 9.7 million individuals. During the same period of the year 2021, 1.2 million tourists visited Spain. Spending by tourists increased by 794.5% between the months of January and March compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 11.853 million euros.
After the UK, Germany and France come in second and third place as tourism countries of origin, with totals of 608,803 for Germany (a 482.2% yearly increase) and France with 456,592 ( a 332% increase). Among other countries, it’s worth mentioning that increases in tourists have been recorded from Ireland (2,953.7%) The USA (2,593.7%) and Scandinavia (1,292.8%).
