Sevilla showcases its gastronomy on World Tapas Day
29 June, 2022Although World Tapas Day has been celebrated annually in Spain for some time now, like so many other events, it was interrupted by the pandemic. For a few days in 2022, however, it will once again become the flagship event for Spanish gastronomy. And this year, with a new feature: for the first time, it will be held outside Madrid. Specifically, in Seville.
The Andalusian capital is set to host this tribute to Spanish ‘tapas’, beloved by both locals and tourists from all over Europe and beyond. Organised by Saborea España, between the 23 and 26 June it will also be included the Ruta de la Tapa (Tapas Route), with bars and restaurants offering small tapas dishes paired with wine or beer.
The culinary event will be “a great showcase of Seville’s gastronomy”, according to the mayor, Antonio Muñoz. “Seville is renowned for its gastronomy and has a hospitality sector that is increasingly committed to innovation, sustainability and quality. One of our primary objectives as a city is to offer both quality tourism and quality employment linked to the sector”, he said.
Seville’s hotel and catering industry is key to the city’s tourism recovery strategy, and the forecasts for visitors and overnight stays this year are expected to exceed 85%, surpassing the all-time record of 2019.
