Spain recovers 9 out of 10 pre-pandemic British tourists
26 October, 2022In August, Spain was visited by over 8.8 million international tourists, 87% of those who arrived in the same month in 2019. These travellers spent a total of 11,258 million euros on their travel and stay, which represents 96% of the figures for August 2019. “The expectations we had of recovering nine out of ten international tourists from the pre-pandemic in the central months of the summer, during July and August, have been fulfilled. Spain has experienced an extraordinary tourist high season and we are facing autumn without the inflation and uncertainty caused by the war weighing down this tourist reactivation for the time being”, stated the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.
With data accumulated in the first eight months of the year, the arrival of international tourists in Spain exceeds 48 million (83% of the same pre-pandemic period) and spending reaches 63,898 million euros (92% of 2019). In August, the average cost per person was 1,276 euros (119 euros more than in August 2019) and the average stay was 7.9 days, similar to that of August 2019, as reported by the ministry to which Turespaña belongs.
