The historical summer of Spanish campsites

26 October, 2022

Spanish campsites have had the best summer in history. Between June and August, the campsites registered more than 5.2 million travellers and more than 25 million overnight stays, which “exceeds the best historical data in the sector”, according to the Spanish Federation of Campsites (FEEC), which expects an equally mild September, without knowing the data.

The camping sector already expected to exceed five million travellers and 23 million overnight stays this summer, achieving an average occupancy of over 90%. Finally, the season has improved those forecasts, as confirmed by the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE). “The figure for August alone is already extraordinary: 2,113,000 travellers and 11,254,000 overnight stays”, highlighted by the Federation.

Between June and August, more than 5,241,000 travellers spent their holidays in campsites to total 25,300,000 nights in this type of accommodation. Figures which represent an 13.47% increase in travellers of compared to last summer, when there were still certain fears and limitations due to the spread of COVID-19.
