Inflation causing hardly any increase in Madrid and Barcelona hotels
30 November, 2022The prices of room accommodation have increased in 2022 due to the reactivation of demand and global inflation. The latest report from American Express Business Travel suggests that in 2023 rates will continue to rise, although the percentage will be lower than this year due to economic prospects.
However, in Madrid and Barcelona the increases will be below those of the main destinations in Europe. The increase expected for 2023 responds to the fact that there is still an accumulated demand, mainly tourism for meetings and events and that hoteliers need to compensate for the rise in costs of key inputs, such as energy, food and personnel.
According to “Hotel Prices 2023”, hotels in Madrid will increase their rates by 7.2% and those in Barcelona by 6.6%. On the other hand, Paris will be the European destination with the greatest increase in rates (+10%), in Stockholm they will increase by 9%, Dublin (8.5%), Amsterdam and Frankfurt (7.5%) and London (6.2 %) follow.
