Cuenca will be the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2023
7 December, 2022The city of Cuenca will be the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2023, replacing the municipality of Sanlúcar de Barremeda (Cádiz) which currently holds this recognition. The city of Castilla competed, among other candidacies, with Oviedo (Asturias) and Pontevedra (Galicia) in second and third place.
The Spanish Capital of Gastronomy is an event promoted by the Spanish Hospitality Federation (FEHR) and the Spanish Federation of Tourism Journalists and Writers (FEPET) to promote gastronomy as one of the main attractions for tourism in Spain. The city will host intense gastronomic activity all year round.
It is the third time that Cuenca has aspired to achieve this distinction. In its candidacy, it has tried to make a difference and highlight the variety of its products and culinary innovation. The Spanish Capital of Gastronomy was launched in 2012, with Logroño as a pioneer, followed by Burgos (2013), Vitoria (2014), Cáceres (2015), Toledo (2016), Huelva (2017), León (2018), Almería (2019) and Murcia (2020/21).
