Baleària will be a pioneer in having 5G coverage on board
14 December, 2022The Baleària shipping company will be a pioneer in using 5G Ship to Shore, where 5G communication is provided with antennas both on the coast and on ships which are sailing at a distance of up to 100 km from the shore. And it will do so through a joint project with Telefónica.
The technology company has highlighted that “this project represents a further step in future communications for maritime infrastructures. The needs for coastal connectivity are far higher than one might think and they do not stop growing. From passenger ships, merchant ships, coast guards, rescue services, etc.
In this case, we have deployed 5G SA communication with low latency, on which the use of state-of-the-art technologies could be generalised, such as artificial intelligence algorithms, with a view to, for example, automating routes, making decisions in real time or automatic tele-piloting.
