An example of the fight against food waste on cruise ships
8 February, 2023Costa Cruises and the Barcelona Food Bank have renewed the alliance to help the neediest people in the city. This initiative is part of Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 of the 2030 Agenda, on “responsible consumption and production.” Food prepared by onboard kitchens, but not served, is donated to local organizations which support people in need and at risk of social exclusion.
This project is part of Costa's extensive Food Assistance Programme which, since its inception, has distributed more than 1.1 million meals to people in need in 15 destinations hosted by our ships thanks to the collaboration of local partners.
In turn, Bosco Fonts, director of the Food Bank Barcelona added that he “celebrates” the renewal of this commitment by Costa Cruises which is “fully aligned with the mission of the Food Banks to reduce food waste, through the recovery of food surplus”.
