Two Spanish airports had more flights in 2022 than in 2019
1 March, 2023The airports in the network of the Spanish Airports and Air Traffic (Aena) organisation closed the month of January 2023 with 16,930,100 passengers, 2.1% above the data for the same month of 2019, the pre-pandemic year, and which, furthermore represents an increase of 62.7% compared to January 2022.
In January 2023, there were 156,500 flights i.e. a recovery of 98.1% compared to 2019 and an increase of 18.7% compared to 2022. Of the total number of travellers registered in January, 16,858,135 corresponded to commercial passengers, of which 10,724,913 travelled on international flights, a recovery of 99.2% compared to January 2019 and 72.1% more than in 2022.
Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the highest number of passengers in the first month of the year with 4,433,209, 1.1% higher than January 2019, as well as a 64.8% increase compared to last January. Barcelona-El Prat follows with 3,078,737 (-6% as compared to 2019 and +80.9% as compared to 2022) and Gran Canaria with 1,204,146.
