Canaries support the energy efficiency of their accommodation

29 March, 2023

The Government of the Canary Islands has approved subsidies to finance energy efficiency and circular economy projects in accommodation registered in the General Tourist Registry. Almost 16 million euros will be earmarked. The projects to be financed must guarantee a reduction in the consumption of non-renewable primary energy by at least 30% over the initial situation.

The programme will finance the improvement of the energy efficiency of the thermal enclosure so as to achieve a reduction in the energy demand for air conditioning and heating of the building, through conventional construction actions (exterior carpentry, facades, solar protection, etc.) and unconventional or bioclimatic architecture on its thermal enclosure.

The aim of the tender is to grant subsidies to at least 255 hotels and non-hotel establishments (apartments, villas, iconic houses, rural houses and holiday homes). Soon the aid will be extended to non-accommodation tourist companies, for which another 9 million euros are anticipated.
