Madrid beats the record of visitors : over 830,000 in April
14 June, 2023Never before in April had the city of Madrid received a number of visitors like this year : 834,900, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey published by the National Statistics Institute (INE). International tourists have grown by 27%.
Furthermore, according to the INE, 9.2 million tourists have come to Madrid in the last twelve months, which represents an increase of 44% compared to the previous year, seven points more than the increase in visitors at national level which is at 37.3%.
Other very relevant data from the Hotel Occupancy Survey is the number of overnight stays in the city last April, which are already 1.2% above the same month in 2019 and also mark the trend of tourism recovery in the capital.
The total number of overnight stays was 1.8 million with a year-on-year increase of 10.6%. The average stay in April was 2.06 nights per traveller, the same figure as in 2022, although foreign visitors stayed 2.4 nights.
