8% more British tourists arrive in Spain in July

20 September, 2023

53.5 million passengers landed in Spain from international airports in the first seven months of the year, 21.6% more than in the same period in 2022 and only 1.6% less than in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spain received more than 10.3 million passengers from international airports in July, 11.5% more than the previous year, according to data published by Turespaña. A figure just 1.62% lower than that of July 2019, when the best ever figure was reached, with 10.5 million travellers from outside Spain. Among the outbound markets, the UK stands out, with 24.1% of the total number of passengers (8.2% more than in July 2022).

For the acting Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, these figures show that Spain is “a leading destination” and certify the “sweet” summer that the tourism sector is experiencing. 56% of the total number of passengers came from the European Union, 11.4% more than in 2022; while 44% came from the rest of the world, 11.7% more than in the seventh month of the previous year.
