Cadiz port: first to provide electric hook-up for cruises
24 January, 2024The Port Authority of the Bay of Cadiz has announced the electrification of its port with the aim of attracting more cruise ship calls, which improves the future prospects of this destination. “We have considered it an important and innovative project, as we’ll be the first port in Spain to have the electrification system for cruise ships”, developed by Endesa X.
With this system, called OPS (Onshore Power Supply), arriving ships will be able to turn off their auxiliary engines, which, without this innovative system, would have to remain on in order to continue generating the electricity they need during their stay in a port.
In this way, this eliminates the presence of fumes and elements harmful to health and, at the same time, the noise generated by the auxiliary engines, which greatly benefits the neighbouring population. The official presentation of this sustainable tourism initiative took place at the Fitur 2024 trade fair.
