Record of passengers in Spanish airports
31 January, 2024Spanish airports have closed the year 2023 with an all-time record number of passengers with 283.1 million, 16.2% more than in 2022 and 2.9% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, the previous record year when 275.2 million travellers were reached.
Throughout 2023, AENA managed 2.4 million aircraft movements, 8.5% more than in 2022. Of the total number of passengers last year, 282.3 million were commercial passengers: 189.7 million travelled on international flights, 18.2% more than in 2022, while 92.6 million travelled on domestic flights, 12.6% more than in the same year.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in 2023 with 60.2 million, representing a growth of 18.9% compared to 2022. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 49.9 million (+19.9% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca, with 31.1 million (+8.9%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 22.3 million (+21.1%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 15.7 million (+19.2%); Gran Canaria, with 13.9 million (+12.4%); Tenerife Sur, with 12.3 million (+14%); and Valencia, with 9.9 million (+22.6%).
