2 Spanish cities among the 10 most attractive for tourism
21 February, 2024Every year, the global market research institute Euromonitor determines the world’s most attractive urban destinations. In the latest of its studies, Spanish cities are particularly well represented in the top positions of the “Top 100 Destination Cities Index”, with the capital, Madrid, in third place, and Barcelona, at number 9, in the Top 10. It is the only country with 2 cities in such exclusive ranking.
According to Euromonitor analysts, the decision is based on the exceptional performance of each city in terms of tourism policy and attractiveness, as well as tourism infrastructure and performance. In this ranking, 55 different criteria were evaluated in the areas of economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety and sustainability.
The analysts who compiled the list of best urban destinations recognised the Spanish capital’s “exceptional performance in terms of sustainability efforts”. For example, the city aims to become a climate-neutral destination by 2050.
