Balearic Islands to invest €350m in tourism sustainability this year

20 March, 2024

The Balearic Government has announced that over the course of 2024 it will mobilise 350 million euros from the sustainability tax, better known as the tourist tax. The aim is to emphasise the value of this tax and, along these lines, an effort will be made to communicate to travellers how the amount they pay when they stay in the Balearic Islands is spent.

“Over the course of this year we will mobilise 350 million euros from the Sustainable Tourism Tax that our visitors pay when they stay in our islands and which we are now going to emphasise the final nature of this tax,” said the President of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens. And she said that projects worth €74 million from previous years have already been reprogrammed.

“It is important to be accountable and in the Gov., which I have the honour of presiding, we will do so, so that every tourist knows how every euro spent on this tax is invested, so that they can see how their money contributes to improving the environment, to the commitment to sustainability and to the preservation of a fragile, small territory we must protect”, she added.
