5 spectacular lighthouses in Spain
- Tower of Hercules. La Coruña, Galicia. It is the only Roman lighthouse still in operation that still performs the same functions as when it was founded.
- Cabo de Gata lighthouse. Almería, Andalusia. Located in the heart of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, this 18-metre-high lighthouse was built because of the numerous ships that wrecked on the Laja de Cabo reef.
- Formentor lighthouse. Mallorca, Balearic Islands It was one of the most difficult lighthouses (see image) on the islands to build precisely because of its location on the Formentor peninsula at 210 metres above sea level.
- Chipiona lighthouse. Cadiz, Andalusia. It is the tallest in Spain, at 69 metres from the base, and one of the tallest in Europe.
- Maspalomas lighthouse. Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. The beaches and dunes of Maspalomas are undoubtedly the most appreciated, visited and photographed of all the Canary Islands. The 55m high lighthouse was built in 1861.
