83% of cruise ships arriving in Barcelona use it as a home port

31 July, 2024

The Port of Barcelona has registered 323 cruise ship stopovers between January and June, 83% with Barcelona as a home base, which according to Lluís Salvadó, president of the institution, is "a qualitative leap" in the model they want, as it is the segment that brings the most benefits to the city.

During the first half of the year, stopovers were contracted at 6.6% to 323, but occupancy reached 83%, compared to 77% for the same period in 2023. The President of the Port detailed that in 2023, 79% of the stopovers were with Barcelona as home port and the remaining 21% in transit, whereas this year they represent 83% and 17%, respectively.

Another important fact is that 1,065,172 passengers were received, i.e. 3.9% more than the previous year. According to Salvadó, the Port has reduced the number of cruise passengers on transit stopovers by 0.9 % and premium and luxury stopovers - those of 4 or 5 star cruises - have grown by 10 %.
