  1. Real Alcázar. This fortified palace of Mudejar architecture which houses imposing gardens is in the heart of Seville. It is a green labyrinth, full of palm trees, orange and jasmine trees, organised in a series of courtyards and terraces connected by fountains and pools of crystal-clear water.

  2. Generalife. Located in the hills of Granada, the Generalife is part of the Alhambra complex and is a magnificent example of Islamic gardening. Built as a retreat for the Nasrid kings, its gardens are designed to evoke an earthly paradise.

  3. Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso. A short distance from Madrid, it is known for its imposing Baroque gardens inspired by those of Versailles. These gardens are famous for their impressive fountains, fed by a pump-less water system using gravity.

  4. Parc Güell. Parc Güell, designed by the modernist architect Antoni Gaudí, which in reality, more than a garden, is a masterpiece of landscape architecture located in the heart of Barcelona, is a must see in this list of World Heritage Parks.

  5. Royal Palace of Aranjuez. Located on the banks of the Tagus and Jarama rivers, these gardens stand out for their combination of wide geometric flowerbeds, monumental fountains and lush vegetation.

  6. Buen Retiro Park. Located in Madrid, it dates back to the 17th century and is one of the most popular green spaces in the Spanish capital. Its artificial lake, the Crystal Palace and the Rose Garden are some of its most notable attractions.
